Celebrate the Boy!

In honour of Baby M., I'm joining Rae (whom I admire very much) and other crafty bloggers in Celebrate the Boy Month! It's an entire month of posts of boy-related sewing and crafts. While I'm not going to do strictly boy posts, I'm doing giveaways every week for the next four weeks, starting with...

Mr. Munkeh! He's been the most popular Mushy Peas item so far, and he's particularly happy to be part of the celebration. He's sewn from jersey and felt made from recycled pop bottles, with polyester stuffing.

If you'd like to have Munkeh, leave me a comment under this post (feel free to say a few words about the boy in your life- and it doesn't have to be a son, either... nephew/grandson/friend, etc. are all welcome!) with your e-mail address. I'll use the random number generator tool to pick a winner Thursday evening, at, say, 5 p.m. Newfoundland time (3:30 ET), and Munkeh'll be in the mail, on his way to you ASAP.

I'm also hoping to have a couple guest bloggers (some super-crafty moms) as well as a quick craft tutorial or two, so please come back often!

This is the boy I'm celebrating....

See the look on his face? It's not just a smile for the camera- he is literally smiling almost every moment he's awake! About a month before my due date, I had a bit of a panic attack, thinking how much my life was going to change and wondering how I was going to handle it. It's changed, that's for sure, but already I can't remember what life was like before him. And I wouldn't want that life back, either. It's amazing how at this age, I was pretty sure I knew what it felt like to love someone, until this little guy popped out (of ME, which still blows my mind) and redefined everything!

These pics were taken by the fantastic Sandra-Lee Elford, who came to our house two weeks ago for a photoshoot, and with whom Baby M. fell in love with almost immediately- he let her take his pictures for 2-and a half hours!

  2. Munkeh Munkeh Munkeh Munkeh! Oh he is so adorable!

Before I had kids, I always said I had no idea what I would do if I ever had a son. Funny how you just figure it out. Charlie is one of those kids who other mothers are always referring to as "*such* a boy!" I don't know what that means exactly, but I think it has something to do with smashing things and going "raaah!" It's an interesting change of pace from Miss B Sparkle Fairy Princess, I can tell you that much.

Wow - thanks for the opportunity Tara!! Your little Munkehs are oh so adorable.

So, little boys.....well, I was also one of those girls who thought 'a boy? what would I do with a boy?'...but then I had one (and then another!) and discovered that I was capable of a whole new level of love. Nothing can melt your heart like a son can.....there is definitely a real bond b/w a mother and her boy (as you know oh so well!)

  5. He is too cute! And seeing as I have a sweet little boy who will be turning 1 tomorrow (Wednesday), I figure it doesn't hurt to comment ;)

  6. My little boy is 3 and he is hilarious and sweet. He's actually very helpful with his baby sister and even throws out poopy diapers! But be careful if you take away his broom, vacuum, swiffer or shovel. The child is a born housekeeper.

  9. I have two very sweet boys and the youngest loves monkeys in general. It was the first animal he ever showed interest in and the first animal sound he ever made was of a monkey as he beat on his little chest. So I am sure he'd love a Monkeh. Very very cute :)

Munkeh is adorable and I know my lil' dude would love him (he has a thing for monkeys... dinosaurs, super heros and trains. You know - all those boy things).

  12. Tara I think you're amazing...not to mention crafty. Whenever I thought of having kids I wanted to be the Mom that was super crafty and made everything by hand. So far all I've been able to muster is a painting and yearly birthday cakes :) It certainly isn't because Maddox isn't worth it. I have such a fantastic and funny little boy whom we actually nickname Monkey :) So a Munkeh for our monkey would be great! We also have baby boy #2 on the way ... Some people think that a complete family is one which has a son and a daughter, which is perfectly fine. I happen to think it means a house divided; boys against girls (and I mean divided in the very mildest sense of the word). I feel like with my husband and now my two boys (one en route) we'll be a very complete family :) Little boys rock!!! (says the totally biased Mom)

  13. With the Crickets led me here, and I'm go glad! I think I'll stay a while.

Our little man is good-natured too, which is even more of a blessing now that he's 2.5 and testing his limits. He *loves* animals, and has a special fondness now for Curious George, so I know he'd love to have a munkeh of his own!

  14. I also have a adorable little boy in my life! He was born about a week after baby M and he makes my day every day with his smile and big blue eyes! He loves to "talk" and play! He would love a munkeh to go with his puffin/moose!
